Dr. Samantha Crandall is a PhD prepared nurse scientist with over 10 years of experience as a professional dedicated to patient safety, quality and high reliability. She currently serves as the Director of Patient Safety at Suburban Hospital, a member of Johns Hopkins Medicine. Dr. Crandall has presented at a number of national conferences and workshops, including the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) Patient Safety Congress and the Press Ganey Human Experience (HX24) conference.
At the local level, Samantha leads event management, communication resolution program, and high reliability organizing. At the system level, she is engaged in standardizing the health system’s response to patient safety events and is an Armstrong Institute for Patient Safety and Quality principle staff member. Before joining Suburban Hospital, Dr. Crandall held the positions of Patient Safety Officer/Risk Manager at San Ramon Regional Medical Center and System Patient Safety Specialist at Sharp HealthCare. Within these roles she mentored leaders in patient safety and high reliability science. Dr. Crandall is an alumnus of the University of San Diego where she completed her PhD in Nursing Research and Masters degree in Nurse Leadership and she holds certifications in both health care quality (CPHQ) and patient safety (CPPS).
